e-mail to the members
Dear PTV users,
we're looking forward for the new phase of our collaboration. There are a couple of things that happened during the recent meeting in Zurich of the Workgroup 1 of the COST Action "Particles in Turbulence" http://mp0806.cineca.it:
* we plan to have a sort of collaborative benchmark, comparing our various algorithms of stereo matching, calibration, tracking and so on.
* we have established the SVN server (source version control) and we're going to open it for all the users so the latest developments could automatically reach the group members
* we need to improve significantly our documentation and we look for volunteers to help with the installation instructions on Linux and Mac OS X platforms. We use mostly the Windows XP 32 bit platform and are not aware of the bugs/features/problems related to the 64-bit systems or different OS versions.
* for the Windows XP, the new MSI file is ready (automatic installation, including the test case for very quick start), ideal for the beginners, students in your group that want to get their first impression.
* We'll start move slowly to the new website, generously provided by the ETH Zurich http://ptv.origo.ethz.ch on which the new documentation and the SVN Server will co-exist.
We apologize for multiple e-mails and ask you to remove your name from the PTV wiki if you're not interested in our PTV related spam.

ptv_tcl annoyance is solved
After very long time, the solution of the annoying thing about our ptv.tcl file is found. The problem was that each time one moves a directory with the src_tcl and the ptv.tcl file, the file needed a manual editing, changing the line of
set auto_path " ...."
It became a special problem with the SVN version control - we put the ptv.tcl under a revision control and each one of us has it's own directory for the src_tcl. Therefore, each change needs an update vs a server and we are not sure what's wrong or what needs to be updated. Therefore, the solution was needed.
It uses a very simple idea of checking in which directory the file is and adding this directory to the auto_path, instead of using a manual "set" function. so now it uses
lappend
and file info? to get the job done.
Replace the set auto_path line in your ptv.tcl by these two lines:
lappend auto_path file dirname [info script?]
lappend auto_path "."
lappend auto_path "."

real time image processing sprint
Greg Voth http://www.wesleyan.edu/physics/people/voth.html
joined us for the two weeks sprint on the real time image processing. we're going to spend some time brainstorming the right path to follow, the right algorithm, the hardware platform and the camera choices.
